On The Mother Hand is a lifestyle, family and parenting blog written by Katherine Kowalski, through the lens of raising a disabled child.
The inspiration behind this blog is my little boy, who is unable to walk or talk, but has no diagnosis for his condition. He has a Syndrome Without A Name (SWAN).
He has inspired us to live our lives differently, moving from London to Cornwall to raise him and his older sister by the sea.
I have spoken about the rights of working parent carers and campaigned for better childcare for disabled children at the Parliamentary Inquiry into Childcare for Disabled Children. I get involved in all sorts of campaigning, from better planning, design and funding for home adaptations and accessible housing to fully accessible public toilets with a bench and hoist, and accessible beaches and transport.
I guest write for Huff Post and have appeared on Huff Post Live. I also write for Mumsnet and local and national press.
The blog has won awards including ‘Most Informative Post’ in the SWAN UK Blogger Awards.
I don’t usually accept PR requests but will welcome brands who are making an effort in the accessibility stakes or from specialist brands who provide disability related products or services.
